Service Description

2020 no doubt has affected our nervous systems. Moments of extreme stress (especially when it lingers) can remove us from feeling balanced and place us in states of anxiousness or aloofness. Practices that offer the ability to self-regulate from the effects of stress can restore us. Yoga, mindfulness and meditation offer many tools to calm the nervous system, returning it to a place of equanimity. Learn how to balance the nervous system through movement, breathing and meditation. This 2-part series will be a workshop format offering yoga philosophy education, scientific understanding, and time to incorporate practices. You'll leave knowing better why these practice work and how to do them. Suggested price is $30; please contact if need a group rate (10 or more people). The mind and the breath are intimately connected and the activity or cessation of activity of one affects the other. Thus, rhythmic breathing can help achieve mental equanimity and inner peace. Part 1 will explore the yoga concept of pranayama (rhythmic awareness of the breath), anatomy of breathing as well as postures and practices to support embodying these concepts. Part 2 will explore the yoga concept of the three gunas (fundamental forces that manifest mind and matter), parasympathetic and sympathetic responses to stress and windows of tolerance. Awareness of the three gunas in your yoga/meditation practice and in everyday life will be accessible following this practice to provide indications of where you are compared to where you inspire to be. Suggested price is $30 for this 2 part series. A sliding scale is also available if you need financial assistance or can sponsor an attendee who might otherwise not be able to afford to attend. Email: at least 48 hours in advance and we got you! This month, sponsorship is available to: BIPOC students of forensic science. You can attend this workshop series for free!
